Beth Gall Set to Participate in the London Marathon

Congratulations to Beth Gall, Origination (Graphics) Executive of our Dalkeith site in the UK, for acquiring a spot in the London Marathon on April 22, 2018. The Virgin Money London Marathon is notoriously difficult to get registered and signed up for and Beth has succeeded and is running for two charities: St Johns Ambulance and Marie Curie.

Recently, I asked Beth about her experience with the marathon and raising funds for the charities and she shared her story with me.

I managed to get a charity place for London Marathon this year, so I pledged to raise £1800 for St John’s Ambulance, which is a charity that provides first aid training. I have actually hit this target with 4 weeks still to go. I have done this by making birthday cakes for donations, selling homemade raspberry and prosecco jam, car boot sales and selling things on eBay. This combined with lots of sponsor money from family, friends, and suppliers has helped me reach my target no problem. My 11-year-old son also took part in Pedal for Scotland. He cycled 50 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh and raised £300 to get my fundraising off to a great start.

As I have reached my original target, I thought it would be amazing if we could raise a bit more. I have decided to give any more money raised to Marie Curie, which is a charity that supports people and their families dealing with terminal illness.

Training has been quite difficult as we have had one of our worst winters in years. The snow and ice have been particularly challenging and I look forward to running without being frozen to the core afterwards! I am lucky to live close to the Pentland hills, so I have fantastic running routes right on my doorstep. I also have my good friend Heather as a training partner.  As she is running all these miles with me, I have talked her into signing up for the Stirling Marathon which is the week after London and she is raising money for War Child.

There is only 4 weeks now until the marathon so the end is in sight, just a couple more long runs then time to taper for the big day.
